One of the dictums in the Charter of the founding of UMI, which was formulated by its founders, was that the basic purpose of establishing UMI was to form experts, skilled, virtuous and devoted to Allah, and to play a role in UMI as the enforcer of the noble ideals of Islamic symbols.

So since its inception, UMI has become a foundation of hope for the founders and the community at that time how the application of education can contribute to the intellectual life of the nation which is inspired by Islamic values. This cannot be separated from the historical essence and mission which is monumentally placed in the historical documents of UMI, as an educational institution and a da'wah institution.

A. Islamic Campus Program

This program was launched in 1985 with the hope that UMI would not only be able to carry out the mission of the Tridarma of Higher Education with a worldly perspective, but also be able to develop aspects of education that are ukhrawi insight, which is based on the self-awareness of every human being who is involved in it as a creature created by Allah SWT. Therefore, with this program, it is hoped that the entire academic community of UMI can achieve the plenary of self-serving to the Creator God Almighty.

The Islamic campus program is a program with a remedial character, which although it will not be the same as the role played by religious universities, but at least the religious spirit remains the hallmark of UMI's. It sounds very ideal because the output that UMI aspires to is a human who has the qualities of ulil albab or Muslim intellectuals, a term that is revealed in the Qur'an which is given to skilled and expert scholars according to their disciplines, and does not forget to dhikr and prostrate to Allah. swt. This quality is also what is meant as a complete human being, which is coveted by the Indonesian people.

Actualization of the Islamic Campus as an effort to achieve the mandate carried out by the UMI academic community in realizing the Tridharma Higher Education program and manifesting the message of da'wah through education and the development of science and technology. UMI's academic community is expected to have the awareness to participate maximally in improving the quality of faith, morals and mastery of science and technology as well as skills, as an effort to develop their quality as weak individuals and at the same time improve the standard of living of Muslims in general, both on campus and on campus. off campus.

The main points of the Islamic Campus Program include:

  1. Academic and Teaching Sector, namely the Islamization of science, by giving Islamic style and color to all disciplines that will be given to students, determining the curriculum and method of presentation, especially Islamic religious education, eradicating illiteracy in reading Al-Qur'an for students. and the entire UMI academic community.
  2. The field of research is conducting research on the main problems faced by Muslims.
  3. The field of Community Service is to do community service according to development priorities and be programmed in stages.
  4. Personnel field which includes elements of leadership, employees who are directed to the Islamization of the working conditions of each unit.
  5. The Student Affairs field is the development of students' faith, knowledge, skills and morals (including clothing), which is directed at providing motivation, so that students have enthusiasm, ideadism, patriotism and high loyalty to religion, nation and state, especially to their alma mater.
  6. The Education and Training Sector is an effort to provide implementing staff for various programs, both among lecturers and students.
  7. Fostering the Syiar and Ruhul Islam, namely the utilization of campuses, the prosperity of mosques and activities for Islamic holidays and other activities.
  8. Fostering the community/Muslims in the field of spiritual mentality and ukhuwah Islamiyah.
  9. Actively conduct counseling to the community, in an effort to increase and improve welfare and skills in various fields.

The implementation of the Islamic Campus Program must be maximized by all campus elements in it, starting from the leadership element to subordinates including students, all of whom must be able to position themselves and realize that their existence at UMI is not only as an executor of the mandate, but also as part of da'wah activities. This determination continues to be inflamed to socialize the program for all lines of campus life.

B. Islamic Boarding School

The existence of the Indonesian Muslim University with its characteristics as an Islamic higher education institution, carries out broader and heavier tasks and responsibilities than just giving birth to graduates, by trying to provide plus value to its students, through the development of Islamic aqidah and ethics (morals), as the foundation in navigate the future.

One of the concrete steps implemented at UMI in preparing people who are ready to compete in the era of globalization, which is based on intellectual intelligence and emotional and spiritual intelligence, is Pesantren Kilat. This Kilat Islamic Boarding School activity started in the 1989/1990 school year, which was specifically for new students. This is done with the assumption that students who enter UMI come from different backgrounds, so that from the beginning it is necessary to provide an understanding of faith such as aqidah, morality and monotheism which is then followed by Islamic religious practice (reading the Koran and practicing prayer). In its development, the Pesantren Kilat activity became a substitute for the OSPEK (Campus Introduction Orientation) activity in welcoming new students, so that the OSPEK activity was deleted/abolished.

C. Enlightenment of the Heart

The Qalbu Enlightenment activity is the hallmark of UMI as an educational institution and a da'wah institution, which is carried out at the Darul Mukhlisin Student Islamic Boarding School UMI, which is located in Padanglampe Village, Kab. Pangkep as Campus IV UMI, its presence cannot be separated from the noble ideals of the founders of UMI, to foster and enhance the status of the community through education and religious development. The coaches of UMI are aware of the phenomenon that is developing at this time, where the current education system emphasizes treatment patterns or coaching on brain intelligence in the sense of providing knowledge and skills alone, while the development of morality and heart is forgotten.

In the 2000/2001 academic year, the pesantren was functioned to foster UMI students, starting from new students, because it was realized that students who entered UMI came from different educational institutions/schools, and from year to year showed a lower level of understanding/ basic knowledge of Islam, as well as his awareness of akhlaqul karimah getting thinner.

In its development, not only new students were housed at the Darul Mukhlishin Islamic Boarding School but also the leaders, lecturers, employees and administrators of student organizations within the UMI Waqf Foundation. The pattern of coaching carried out in this pesantren has received a positive response from parents of UMI students, the community and several government and private institutions. It is evident that several government agencies have collaborated with Islamic boarding schools, such as the South Sulawesi Police Chief and Kopertis Wil. IX and the University of Gorontalo. Also the general public who entrust their children, especially drug addicts (drugs).
