Yayasan Wakaf UMI (YW-UMI) adalah suatu badan yang menghimpun berbagai kegiatan seperti pendidikan, penelitian, pengabdian pada masyarakat, usaha, kesehatan dan sosial yang berlandaskan pada prinsip Islam. Tujuan utamanya adalah untuk syiar Islam yang membawa nilai-nilai kemaslahatan bagi manusia dan alam sekitarnya.
In accordance with the deed of the UMI Waqf Foundation number 43, dated November 7, 1994 Article 3 states that this waqf foundation aims to be noble and pure, to enhance the degree and symbols of Islam, to enhance and deepen knowledge of the world and the hereafter, and to perfect the education of noble character, which is bestowed upon them. Allah SWT to the people, for the benefit of the needs of the community and the homeland, is aimed at the glory of Allah's Religion.
All these efforts are focused on the development of sharia and Islamic culture. All the results obtained by the foundation, whether the results of their own efforts or those given by third parties, are waqf for the progress and development of Islam. Waqf itself means that everything that belongs to waqf is the right of Allah and His Messenger, so that all those who participate in moral, material, time and thought, essentially confront themselves with Allah in accordance with the rules established by Allah and His Messenger. His. In waqf, there are no private, group, or group property rights.
This foundation was founded by community leaders, scholars and kings (government) in Sulawesi on February 8, 1953, and was given the name "Foundation Waqf for the Development of the Indonesian Muslim University" with the main priority of this foundation's activities being to prepare for the birth of an Islamic college. Alhamdulillah, this pure and sincere intention bore fruit with the signing of the Charter of the Establishment of the Indonesian Muslim University, on June 23, 1954.
To provide legal certainty with the existence of the foundation, the composition of the foundation's management was ratified before the notary Rjchard Claproth with number 28 dated March 9, 1955 under the name "Waqf Foundation of the Indonesian Muslim University".
In the development and journey of this foundation, there have been ups and downs in its management and activities, and its name has undergone several changes. At the beginning of its establishment, it was named the "Indonesian Muslim University Development Waqf Foundation", then it became "Indonesian Muslim University Waqf Foundation", changed again to "Indonesian Muslim University Waqf Board Foundation", then changed again to "UMI Waqf Foundation" based on the deed of Notary Abdul Muis, SH, MH. Number 43 dated June 6, 2005.
Although the name has changed several times, the name of the waqf has always been maintained until now. This is intended to provide an understanding to the community, that this foundation does not belong to individuals or groups, but belongs to the community, so that the community (Islam) has an obligation to maintain and develop this foundation as aspired by its founders.

At the beginning of its establishment, YW-UMI only concentrated on education and da'wah. However, since the 1990s, YW-UMI has started to develop a new pillar, namely business and da'wah. And in June 2003, YWUMI completed its amaliyah pillars through the management of the health and da'wah pillars, namely the Ibnu Sina Hospital.
Currently the UMI Waqf Foundation fosters three pillars of business charity, namely Education and Da'wah, Business and Da'wah and Health and Da'wah.
